I remember the first time Matt told me about Margaret. His smile brightened up like I've never seen before and he blushed in a school boy way. He told me "She's everything and more" and I knew he had met his southern belle. The day started with the perfect light and unseasonably warm weather. It was December and over 70 degrees. Coming from Boston, I was in heaven. But that's nothing compared to the cloud 9 Matt and Margaret were on.
Margaret and Matt made a great play on their names with and M&M theme to the wedding.
We began the day at Salon 28 in downtown Starkville where Hilary Crowley got to work on Margaret's hair.
Meanwhile the groomsmen were starting the day early at the lovely Hilton Garden where the almost 200 guests were staying for the weekend along with Mississippi State's recruits. Boys will be boys!
Next it was off to the venue, Hewlett Barn, for Margaret to finish getting ready with the help of her bridal party.
Margaret apparently doesn't like her feet touched. But she let them help her anyway!
And then Margaret read the loving note Matt left for her, with the school boy words "open me" on the front, before making her way to give her handsome groom a sneak peak before the ceremony.
They chose to have the first look under the first doorway they would step through as husband and wife. Margaret's father George built the doorway for them.
Next we went for a stroll around the estate and captured how smitten these two are with each other! Matt's mother made sure to point out to me that this is called the "lean -in" where you can tell the groom is chasing after the bride because he leans towards her to catch her. If you ask me, it looks like she wanted to be caught by this one!
This ring is particularly special because it was her grandmother's diamond.
She had her grandmother's mink as her something old. Little did we know it would be so warm!
The beautiful florals were done by Forget Me Not florist in Ackerman, Mississippi.
Finally it was time for the sunset ceremony!
The ring bearer carried a sign that said "Uncle Matt is FINALLY getting married!" Margaret and Matt are 36 and 39 respectively and neither had been married before. They both wanted to wait till they knew they really found the one! The flower girl was an M&M girl and handed out M&Ms to guests as they walked down the aisle together. The officiant, Joel Hawkins, said powerful words of how their love would spread to their friends and family like the candle light spread throughout the ceremony. Each person whose face was aglow would support them in their journey as husband and wife.
Time to celebrate! The reception was a true southern wedding with a buffet to boot!
They shared their first dance to Frank Sinatra's "The Way You Look Tonight."
Margaret surprised Matt with an Alabama Groom's Cake! He asked me more than once if I caught a photo before it was cut, if that is an testament to how much he loved it.
Nothing was stopping these two on the dance floor!
In the end, their friends and family (who stayed and partied until the very end including a conga line throughout the whole venue) sent them off with sparklers to begin their life together.
